  • Qutayba Hamid has received the 2011 Distinguished Lecturer in Respiratory Sciences Award from the CIHR Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health and the Canadian Thoracic Society in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the advancement of respiratory sciences in Canada. The award will be presented in October at the 2011 CHEST Conference in Hawaii where he will give a keynote lecture.

  • We were extremely saddened by the unexpected death of Peter Macklem last month. Peter was the founding Director of the Meakins-Christie Laboratories between 1972 and 1979, when he resigned to become Chair of the Dept of Medicine at McGill. He was a widely respected international figure in respiratory research and was active until his death on February 11. We will miss him greatly. For obituaries see see pages on McGill and yourlifemoments. A memorial for Peter will be held at McGill in May.
