Dr. Irah King, researcher at the Meakins-Christie Laboratories and associate professor in the Departments of Microbiology and Immunology and Medicine, is an expert on microbiomes. In this podcast on the MUHC Foundation’s Health Matters, Dr. King describes the role our microbiome plays in our overall health. He reveals that our microbiome is key to our body’s ability to fight off an illness and can even help to mitigate a genetic predisposition to a disease.

Further research on the microbiome must involve scientists across a wide variety of fields, from immunologists to geneticists to computer scientists, in order to better understand its role on the overall functioning of the body and explore the possibilities of harnessing its power.
